The Story of Brainchild
In early 2016, Martin Brix Midtgaard designed the first versions of The Egg and The Artichoke, which he shared on his personal Instagram profile. As a media graphics student, Martin frequently posted creative ideas, but his literal interpretations of The Egg and The Artichoke received an especially strong response. Suddenly, the idea for Brainchild was born.
In the fall of 2016, Martin officially founded Brainchild. At that time, Brainchild was an online shop offering five different poster designs: The Egg, The Artichoke, The Swan, The Ant, and The Teddy Bear, all with pastel-colored backgrounds. The original background colors from 2016 are still available today.
From 2016 onward, Brainchild steadily grew. In the fall of 2020, we won an entrepreneurial competition, where the prize was the use of a retail space for three months. This led to the opening of a Brainchild pop-up shop in City Vest, Aarhus, Denmark, in November 2020. After the pop-up shop, we launched a permanent Brainchild store at Æggepakkeriet, Aarhus, Denmark. However, by 2023, we had outgrown our space and relocated to a larger store at the harbor in Horsens, Denmark, where our shop is located today.
Brainchild represents the essence of Danish design, reimagined for the modern home. Designed in Denmark, made in California, and shipped across the U.S.
